EL SALVADOR: FMLN rocked by mass defections

With 10 months to go to the legislative and municipal elections, the leftist Frente Farabundo Martí­ para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN) last week suffered a major setback, in the form of the resignation of 300 party members, including legislators, a mayor, town councillors and activists - all exasperated by what they see as the leadership's undemocratic and unprincipled performance.
