GUATEMALA: Exports boom

Export receipts in the first eight months of the year came to US$2.42bn, according to figures from the Banco de Guatemala. In the first eight months of 2004, export receipts came to US$2.1bn. The country's four traditional export commodities (coffee, sugar, bananas and cardamom) came to US$1.07bn. Coffee exports were up by 42% in the period from 1 January to 22 September at US$465m. Coffee production in the coffee year which ended on 30 September was 200,000 quintales (100lb or 46kg bags) more than for the previous coffee year.
