BOLIVIA: Economy relishes the power vacuum

The country's economy is continuing to do well, despite the political chaos. In the first half of 2005 the economy grew by 4%. What is significant is that businesses in the western part of the country, where the leftwing protest movement is strongest, are reporting decent figures. Even more surprisingly, businessmen are optimistic, with two thirds of those in the country's biggest department, La Paz, expecting things to improve.
