CHILE: Military trials to stand in Mexico

It is not only in Chile that relatives of the disappeared or victims of rights violations have been disappointed. In Mexico last week a court turned a suit to have the trials of the military accused of such crimes to be heard by civilian courts rather than military tribunals. Afadem, an association of victims' relatives, had sought an injunction in the case of two generals, Arturo Acosta and Humberto Quirós, accused of enforced disappearances and other offences.
