OIL: What does oil at US$70 a barrel mean for the region

The international oil price topped US$70 a barrel on 19 April. This pushed the price of Mexico's mix of crude oils over US$59 a barrel. Venezuela's crude is fetching a similar amount. Venezuela and Mexico are the region's two main oil exporters, though Ecuador, Colombia, Argentina, Bolivia and Trinidad & Tobago are also significant net exporters. Brazil is now self-sufficient in crude oil and an exporter of refined products.
