ARGENTINA: Consumption kicks up a gear

The biggest year-on-year increase in supermarket sales for two and a half years, in August, shows that Argentine consumers are getting the economic bit between their teeth. So far, the economy has yet to run into obvious capacity constraints, though the energy position still looks precarious. The worry is that over the past three years, foreign direct investment in Argentina has averaged less than 2% of GDP each year.
