CHILE: Government opts for spending

The finance minister, Andrés Velasco, said at the beginning of October that the country's current economic bonanza would be used to improve education, health, housing and research. The move looks like a reaction to both strikes in the health and education sectors and lacklustre growth in the economy as a whole.
