EL SALVADOR: Poor coffee harvest

Ricardo Espitia, executive director of the Consejo Salvadoreño del Café (CSC) said that the crop, which is traditionally harvested by the end of March, was about 10% below last year's levels. The CSC said that the harvest was 1.74m (46kg or 100lb) bags, as against the 1.93m bags harvested in 2005/06. The CSC blamed the eruption of Ilamatepec for the fall in output of about 190,000 bags.
