The Superintendencia de Administración Tributaria (Sat) claimed on 10 December that Value Added Tax (Vat) evasion fell from 31.6% in 2006 to 26.1% in 2007. Vat receipts in the first 11 months were up by almost 25%, suggesting that the next government stands a good chance of being able to increase the overall tax take to at least 10% of GDP.
