URUGUAY: Central bank relaxes over inflation

Although inflation was 8.5% in 2007 - and above the 6.4% of 2006 - the central bank showed that it was relaxed about the prospects for inflation in 2008. At its first meeting of 2008, on 11 January, it did not raise interest rates but instead loosened its inflation target for this year.
