ECUADOR: Nebot tries to rally opposition against President Correa

Jaime Nebot, the mayor of Guayaquil, the country's business capital, is trying to generate a broad-based opposition movement to President Rafael Correa's "citizens' revolution". The decisive moment for Nebot will come on 24 January, when he has called for a demonstration in Guayaquil against the government's plans. On 19 January the government mobilised over 100,000 people for its demonstration in Guayaquil to celebrate Correa's first year in office.
