OIL: What oil at US$80-US$100 a barrel means for the region

The price of oil briefly touched US$100 a barrel in New York in early January. Then the worries about the state of the US economy kicked in, pushing the price back down to below US$90 a barrel. The region's oil producers could cope with a further 30% drop in the oil price before their budgets for 2008 became unhinged.
