GUATEMALA: Congress approves budget
On 1 December congress
approved (by 113 of the 158 members present) the government's budget for 2011.
In 2009 congress did not approve a budget for 2010 which meant that the
government had to roll over the 2009 budget for another year. The 2011 budget
calls for spending of Q$54.4bn (US$6.8bn), up from Q49.7bn in 2009. The 2011
budget had been before congress since 1 October.
