AGRIBUSINESS - MEXICAN HARVEST: Problems ahead

The cold snap in northern Mexico in January has caused major damage to the country's first (autumn/winter) maize crop. Farmers in Sinaloa, the country's main winter maize producing state, say that 90% of the crop has been nipped by the frost. Farmers guess that half the crop may have been killed. The federal government argues that the farmers are overstating the problem and that damage is much less.
