ECUADOR: Down playing Atpdea

The government is downplaying the effect of the recent downturn in relations with the US, which almost certainly has nixed Ecuador's chance of retaining its preferential access to the US market through the Andean Trade Preferences and Drug Eradication Act (Atpdea). The government said that the loss of the Atpdea preferences would cost its exporters only US$25.5m in extra tariffs.
