BANANAS: Problems for Ecuador

The world's biggest banana exporter, Ecuador, is blaming the European Union (EU)'s change from a quota to a tariff system for the sharp increase in banana prices in the EU. Classically, tariffs should nudge prices down when they replace quotas, but this has not happened in the EU.
