MEXICO: Resignation of PRD president highlights crisis

Mexico's third-biggest party, the leftwing Partido de la Revolución Democrática, is in crisis. This is despite its success in the recent mid-term congressional elections and the popularity of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the mayor of Mexico City. López Obrador is the most viable candidate for the presidency in 2006. The party acknowledged its crisis at the weekend when its president, Rosario Robles, resigned.
