A leader of the Movimento dos Sem-Terra, Valmir Ulisses Sebastião, claims that the government is forcing the MST to seize farms in Pontal do Paranapanema in the state of São Paulo. The MST stopped seizing farms in the area last year. Sebastião claimed that the stream of decisions by the local courts to dismantle MST encampments in and around Pontal meant that desperate MST supporters had no option but to move in on farms.
