Employment in Buenos Aires and the surrounding province has risen over the last year but only in the informal economy. Between May 2002 and the same month this year, 308,943 new jobs were created while 315,743 people found work in the informal economy, according to the state statistics department Indec. In the formal economy, however, 6,800 jobs disappeared over the same period.
