NICARAGUA: PLC forms alliance, sticks by Alemán

The Partido Liberal Constitucionalista (PLC) has taken a step towards the announced formation of an anti-Sandinista coalition but has also restated its position that the resumption of the 'national dialogue' and a solution to the country's political crisis are dependent on the release of their leader, former president Arnoldo Alemán. This only partly meets the dual aim that US diplomacy has been pursuing: joint action to defeat the Sandinistas plus the ditching of Alemán.
