BRAZIL: Amazonian deforestation 'halved last year'

Even usually sceptical environmentalist organisations have been celebrating the government's announcement that over the past year the rate of deforestation in the Amazonian region has been reduced by just over 50%. They do, however, differ with the government on the reasons for the decline.
