COLOMBIA: First public test case for 'justice & peace' law

The government of President Alvaro Uribe has been presented with a test case under its 'justice and peace' law: the demobilisation of a paramilitary leader who has been publicly identified in congress as a drug trafficker sought for extradition to the US - just as US Attorney-General Alberto Gonzales was concluding with Colombian chief prosecutor Mario Iguarán a deal designed to ensure continuing US funding for the demobilisation process.
