A delegation from the Inter-American development bank (IDB) will
send its first team down to Lima next Tuesday in order to check the progress of
environmental safeguards in the controversial natural gas project Camisea. It
will assess the progress of the LNG processing plant, to be built in Pisco, only
eight kilometres from the Paracas Bay marine reserve (a sore point with
environmental NGOs) and the construction of the two pipelines stretching from
Cuenca del Ucayali, over 400km east of Lima, to Pisco, 200km south of the
capital.
