VENEZUELA: Government and opposition practise for petitions

The government and the opposition spent the weekend carrying out dry-runs of their petition-gathering process. The first petitions, which need large numbers of signatures to force a recall referendum, go into circulation on 21 November for four days. The key petition, which requires 2.4m of the electorate to sign, calls for President Hugo Chávez to face a recall referendum. This petition goes into circulation on 28 November for four days.
