BRAZIL: US switches to bilateralism

The US seems to have accepted that the best Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) agreement it can hope for will be on the loose Brazilian model. To the surprise of many (and the disgust of Chile and Canada), the US agreed on a Brazilian draft which would allow each country to decide how much it wanted to liberalise and with whom. Last week we reported this as the result of a pre-summit meeting between Brazilian and US trade negotiators.
