Ecuador's under-pressure President, Lucio Gutiérrez, has received the backing of the presidential adviser (former US assistant secretary) for western hemisphere affairs, Otto Reich, who is currently visiting Ecuador. 'We support democracy here in Ecuador and the president was elected leader by the Ecuadorian people,' Reich said after meeting Gutiérrez.
