VENEZUELA: Opposition claims 3.6m signed against Chávez

Venezuela's opposition has announced that it collected 3.6m signatures in favour of a referendum on the future of President Hugo Chávez 's government. This would be more than enough to force a recall referendum, which requires around 2.4m verified signatures. But the government disputes the figures, suggesting instead that the opposition has collected little more than 2m signatures, some of which are fraudulent.
