URUGUAY-US: Left attacks Vázquez for U-turn on investment treaty

President Tabaré Vázquez has come in for strong criticism from the left wing of the ruling Encuentro Progresista-Frente Amplio (EP-FA) for what they perceive as a volte-face on the investment treaty signed with the US by his predecessor, Jorge Batlle. During his mid September trip to the US Vázquez abandoned his previous position of not taking sides in the congressional debate over ratification of the treaty and pronounced himself openly in favour of ratification.
