Colombian reelection suspense heightened by claims of plots for and against Uribe

The impending court ruling which will determine whether President Alvaro Uribe will be entitled to run for reelection next year has triggered a wave of alarmist predictions from a variety of sources, ranging from top government officials to the leftwing opposition. While one group forecasts attempts on Uribe's life to prevent his reelection, the other says that a coup is being plotted to ensure that he stays in power if the court rules against him.
