Fox slams US 'unilateralism'. On 30 September, as his two-day visit to Canada drew to an end, President Vicente Fox publicly, if obliquely, criticised the US for failing to abide by a Nafta arbitration panel's ruling in a dispute with Canada. This involves Canadian timber for construction, which the US claims is subsidised, and on which it has slapped countervailing duties. Canada has taken the case to arbitration within Nafta (where it obtained a favourable ruling) and to the WTO. The US has refused to accept the Nafta ruling.
