PERU: Blow to Toledo as Alejos quits ruling PP

The ruling Perú Posible has been reduced to 40 seats in congress after Walter Alejos Calderón decided to quit the party. Alejos said that he was fed up with political infighting in the PP and the charges of corruption and nepotism against PP cabinet ministers. The news will be a blow to beleaguered President Alejandro Toledo, who has been battling to assert some kind of authority over the fractious PP in recent months.
