PARAGUAY: Laí­no, once a party icon, is expelled by the PLRA

Too much of a penchant for realpolitik has led to senator Domingo Laí­no's expulsion from the Partido Liberal Radical Auténtico (PLRA), the party he helped create in the 1970s as a reaction against other Liberals who had become too cosy with the régime of dictator Alfredo Stroessner. His party has punished him for becoming too cosy with the still-ruling Partido Colorado to the detriment of the PLRA's interests.
