President Oscar Berger yesterday assured thousands of indigenous farmers protesting outside the Plaza de la Constitución in Guatemala City that he will provide them with land and respect for their rights. Accompanied by his Vice-President, Eduardo Stein, Berger went out to meet some 15,000 demonstrators from rural communities across Guatemala, who had converged on the capital over the last few days to demand that Berger make good on his campaign promise to carry out far-reaching agrarian reform.
