The Sala Electoral, one of the four specialist elements of the supreme court,
has asked the full, 20 member, supreme court to rule on whether the Sala
Constitucional was right to overrule it last week. The Sala Constitucional ruled
that the Sala Electoral was not competent to rule on the issue of whether the
Consejo Nacional Electoral (CNE) was right to order the double-checking of dodgy
signatures on the opposition petition. The Sala Constitucional also ruled that
it alone could decide on this issue and, furthermore, that it had already ruled
that the CNE's actions were correct.
