PERU: Coca growers hit Lima

More than 1000 coca growers arrived in Lima yesterday, 3 May, after completing a long march from the central coca-growing regions. They are demanding the full legalisation of coca growing; the release of a prominent cocalero leader, Nelson Palomino, who was imprisoned in 2002 on terrorism charges, and the disbandment of the national drug agency Devida. The march culminated outside the presidential palace.
