Alarm over street-gang threat in Panama

Panama's police have been placed on high alert following a threat by youth street gangs to disrupt the parades held annually in Colón on 3-5 November to commemorate Panama's independence from Colombia. The gangs are held responsible for a recent spate of particularly brutal murders and for the general increase in violent crime.
