On 10 June President Lucio Gutiérrez appointed his fifth agriculture minister since coming to power in January 2003. The new minister is Leonardo Escobar Bravo, a 56-year old former deputy with friendly ties to the Prian and the Partido Roldosista Ecuatoriano (PRE).
