A proposal for a sea-to-sea double fence along the entire Mexico-US border is a key feature of a bill submitted earlier this month by Republican congressman Duncan Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services committee. Opinion polls suggest that the idea has been gaining considerable public support, though the government has - obliquely - dismissed it.
