MEXICO: It is now a tight three-sided contest

The candidates have not yet reached the official starting line for their campaigns, which comes in mid-January, and already the line-up looks very different to what anyone might have expected six months ago. Andrés Manuel López Obrador (PRD) is no longer the clear leader; Roberto Madrazo (PRI) has not moved much from where he was; and the unexpected PAN candidate, Felipe Calderón, has risen to the point of turning the contest into a tight three-sided race.
