ECUADOR: Correa takes big leap ahead

The speed at which new trends have been developing in Ecuador's presidential campaign raises the possibility, albeit slim, that the contest might be settled in the first round - with the anti-neoliberal, anti-establishment candidate Rafael Correa as the likely winner. For Correa, a first-round victory would be crucial, as a runoff would very probably see the other forces ganging up to stop the man they are portraying as 'Chávez 's candidate'.
