MEXICO: Inflation jumps. The annual inflation rate jumped to over 4% in September, according to figures released by the Banco de México. The September figure, 1.01%, is the highest since December 2000. It is also double the rate of September 2005 and the highest for any September since 1998. The main reason for the rise is an increase in agricultural products such as sugar, tomatoes and tortillas. Prices in the education sub-sector also went up as most children returned to school.
