BOLIVIA: Morales seals gas deal with Kirchner. President Evo Morales and his Argentine counterpart Néstor Kirchner will sign a contract in Santa Cruz on 19 October, under which Bolivia will agree to provide 27.7m cubic metres (m3) of natural gas per day to Argentina, by 2010. This is almost four times the current daily total of 7.7m m3. Bolivia has a similar contract with Brazil to supply 30m m3 per day; it has domestic requirements of 3.5m m3. Given that current production is only 33m m3 honouring this contract will depend upon exploration of new gas fields, which in turn depends on the outcome of the government's talks with foreign companies over nationalising the gas industry.
