Tracking trends

HAITI: Growth and security inseparable. While growth rates soared across Latin America, Haiti, along with Guyana, propped up (as usual) the regional table of growth rates compiled by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac) for 2006. GDP growth was less than 2.5%. Haiti is caught in a vicious circle: security is a prerequisite of economic growth, but it is difficult to improve security without economic growth.
