ECUADOR: Correa names cabinet

Two weeks ahead of the first round of the presidential elections in October, Rafael Correa was confident enough to name five members of his future cabinet. On 27 December, he confirmed those five in their posts and filled the remaining positions in the 17-member cabinet. Seven of the jobs were given to women, including the defence and foreign ministries. In another sign of Correa's refusal to compromise, few spaces were allotted to those who might bridge the gap between the executive and the legislature.
