Brazil: The rate of unemployment in the six main metropolitan areas fell to 8.9% in April, down from 9.0% in March, ending three months of rising rates. Just over two million people were unemployed. Unemployment a year ago (April 2008) was a similiar 8.5%. The total occupied population was 20.9m.
