With six months to go until presidential elections on 28 October President Néstor Kirchner's popularity appears to be on a downwards trajectory. It has fallen by 10 percentage points to 57% since late February, according to a poll released by Poliarquía Consultores on 24 April. This is not far above the 50% marker required to win the elections in the first round. Given that Kirchner enjoys an approval rating about 10 points higher than that of his wife Senator Cristina Fernández, he might not want to risk Fernández standing instead of him in October if this trend continues. Kirchner's disapproval rating also increased for the first time from 10% to 14%.End of preview - This article contains approximately 542 words.
