p>MEXICO| Maize prices The government announced on 25 April that is was extending the agreement over maize prices that it made at the beginning on the year. The agreement will now run until 15 August. The agreement, announced by the economy minister, specifies that tortilla prices cannot exceed US$0.77 a kilogramme. The government food agency, Diconsa, will continue to sell maize at US$0.31 per kilo, but other maize providers will now not be allowed to sell maize for more than US$0.29 a kilo. Maize flour providers will not e allowed to sell their products to tortilla makers for more than US$0.45 per kilo The members of the Asociación Nacional de Tiendas de Autoservicio y Departamentales, (Antad) and the country's biggest supermarket, Wal-Mart de México, (which is not a member of Antad) agreed that they would keep the retail price of tortillas at US$054 per kilo.
