Place of Birth: Georgetown, Guyana.
Education: Granger attended the celebrated Queen's College in Guyana, where he became a member of the Queen's College Cadet Corps. After graduation, he joined the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). At the GDF, Granger conducted part of his formal military training in Britain, Brazil and Nigeria. He holds a degree in history from the University of Guyana. He obtained a Master's degree in Political Science and International Relations from the University of West Indies. Granger was also a Hubert Humphrey Fellow at the University of Maryland. He attended a Caribbean Defence and Security Course at the Center for Hemispheric Defence Studies in Washington, DC. An accomplished academic, he has published several academic articles on military, historical and media themes.
Public Life: Granger has had a long and distinguished military career serving as: co-chairman of the Border and National Security Committee; member of the National Security Strategy Planning Committee; Chairman of the Central Intelligence Committee; member of the National Drug Law Enforcement Committee; and member of the Guyana Defence Board. Throughout his military career, he was awarded a Military Service Star and medals for Efficiency and Border Defence. He also led Guyanese military delegations to Brazil, Cuba, Germany, Guinea, South Korea and Yugoslavia. Coupled with his military career, Granger has been able to pursue various academic interests, which eventually led him to found his own publication, Guyana Review.
