COLOMBIA: Farc drives a wedge in opposition Polo

The left-wing opposition Polo Democrático Alternativo (PDA) is embroiled in its most serious internal dispute since its formation last year which is threatening to undermine not just its credibility before the regional elections on 28 October but also its performance then and in the next presidential elections in 2010. The cause of the friction is the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) and its fierce verbal exchanges with PDA Senator Gustavo Petro, best known for his searing attacks on President Alvaro Uribe and his exposure of the parapolitical scandal.
