GUATEMALA: Violence blights elections

The violence which marred the first round of elections on 9 September, resulting in over 50 dead, re-emerged on 8 October with the murders of the secretary for the right-wing Partido Patriota (PP), Aura Salazar, and a security guard for the secretariat of administrative affairs and security of the presidency (SAAS). Both were shot dead in a car in Guatemala City.
